Bosch Cordless Drills

Bosch is one of the biggest manufacturers of power tools in the world and the name Bosch has long been associated with high quality but affordable products. Bosch make a range of power tools aimed at the professional market and a separate range aimed at the DIY market. They are well known for combining innovation with value-for-money in their products and the recently released Bosch cordless drills were the first to use Lithium-ion batteries in the DIY market.

Two of the newly released DIY Bosch cordless drills are the Two-speed Cordless Drill/Drivers PSR 14.4 LI-2 and PSR 18 LI-2. The PSR 14.4 LI-2 has a 14.4v battery and the PSR 18 LI-2 has an 18v battery.

The main difference between the two models being their maximum torque (30 Nm from the 14.4v and 36 Nm from the 18v) and their drilling diameter in wood (30mm and 35 mm).

Both of them are 25% more compact and lighter than comparable conventional cordless drill/drivers because of the new Lithium-ion battery technology and new design.

This two-speed Bosch cordless drill design is aimed at a broad range of drilling and screw driving uses. It can drive around 250 screws, 4 x 30mm in size, in softwood with one battery charge.

The Lithium-ion battery that it uses has a capacity of 1.3-ampere hours, but it is half the size of a comparable Ni-Cad battery. It hardly leaks any self-discharge when it isn’t being used and still maintains 85% of its charge, so if you come to use it after a couple of months it will still have some power.

The Bosch cordless drill/driver PSR comes with a new practical charging station that automatically switches off when the battery is fully charged. The battery can also be charged on its own or while it is still inserted in the drill/driver. The Lithium-ion batteries have no memory effect so they can be recharged any time without reducing their charge capacity.

Bosch Lithium-ion batteries also work with ECP (Electronic Cell Protection), which protects the battery against overload, overheating and total discharge. This extends the lifetime of the battery packs substantially, compared to some other manufacturer’s products.

The Bosch cordless drill is also ergonomically designed with a soft grip covering on the handle and an easy-to-operate forward/reverse switch. The tool holder is also convenient as drill or screwdriver bits can be clamped quickly in the Autolock keyless chuck, without the need for additional tools. The drill spindle locks when the motor is at standstill to make it easy to change the drill bit or screwdriver bit.

All the new design Bosch cordless drills are compact and lightweight yet powerful and suitable for any DIY job. Using the latest innovation of Lithium-ion batteries means Bosch can offer 18v cordless power tools to the DIY market, so enthusiasts can enjoy the same advances as professionals in their cordless power tools technology. Bosch DIY power tools are the ideal choice for the home user requiring quality power tools.
